MY LOUISIANA ESSAY
Theme: “An Ideal day in Louisiana”
DUE: October 1st, 2018
The essay title will be “Louisiana Life.” Resources should be listed on the entry form. Students are encouraged to contact their local Chamber of Commerce, Visitor and Convention Bureau, Historical Societies, City Hall, and public library for information concerning their area. Entries will be submitted on standard 8 ½” x 11” paper. Entries must be written by hand written or typed by the student. Students in the primary category may dictate to another person who may type or write their original work. These transcribers are not to alter in any manner their grammar or form of speech of the child. Handwritten entries are to be on one side of the paper, using additional sheets if necessary. Students are encouraged to keep a copy of their work. Entries will be returned to the district presidents. Student artwork will not affect judging. All participants are required to complete the official entry form. A parent or guardian also must sign the affirmation of originality and the permission clause. The essay will be accepted in a folder with pockets (Entry form in left and essay in right pocket). Others must not assist the student in any way other than transportation during research. Each student must sign the affirmation sentence concerning originality.
Students may enter in the appropriate division: PRIMARY: Grades PreK -2 with no more than 250 words;

Theme: “Outdoor Safety”
DUE: October 1st, 2018
SIZE: Drawing may not exceed 18″ by 12″ (including a mat if using one). You may use regular paper, art paper, or poster board.
MEDIUM: The drawing medium includes pencil, crayon, colored pencil, & markers.
DESIGN: Lettering should be done by hand and should be neat and simple, with a minimum of words. Do not use stencils, magazine clippings or any kind of machine cut-outs. Only original artwork is accepted.
ORIGINALITY: All entries must be the original design and art work of an individual student. A single entry done by two or more students is not permitted. The theme must be carried out in the drawing. Parents or others must not assist a student. Copyrighted material may not be used.
ENTRIES: The entry form must be securely fastened to the back of the drawing — masking tape works best. The number of entries that can be submitted is one per student. Entries that do not follow the guidelines or are received after the deadline will be disqualified.
Important information to remember or check before submitting entries:
- Local PTA Unit must be in “Good Standing“
- Each entry must include a “signed by the student” entry form filled out in its entirety.
- Local Unit information at bottom of student form must be filled out for each entry.
- Local PTA Unit Participation Form must be completed
- Safety Poster Entrants List is required with students names listed
AWARDS: The Caddo District PTA will present up to three (3) Awards of Excellence and three (3) Awards of Merit in each of the four (4) Grade Divisions. Awards will be presented at the PTA Awards Program.
- JUDGING: All entries must be judged at the local unit level before submission to the District for judging. Four (4) entries per grade division may be submitted by each local PTA unit.
Theme: “Heroes Around Me”
DUE: October 1st, 2018
All Fairfield students are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts (which include art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage). One entry per student. Students may enter more than one category This is not mandatory and is a project completed at home with parent supervision; work must be 100% from the student. Only students who move on to the parish level will be required to fill out the student form found on the Caddo district PTA website. The PTA Contest committee will contact parents of winners.
